British Supercomputer ARCHER Hacked

ARCHER (Advanced Research Computing High-End Resource) is Britain’s most powerful academic supercomputer. It is hosted by the University of Edinburgh and runs on 118,080 Intel Xeon E5 CPU cores, with a peak performance of 2.551 petaflops. On May 11, 2020, ARCHER has fallen victim to hackers who targeted it to mine cryptocurrencies.

The users‘ SSH keys were compromised and ARCHER had to be shut down for several days.
